Boreal Light expands into Algeria through new partnership with S.FIVE

Berlin, Germany — [17th of July, 2026] — Boreal Light GmbH, a German company specializing in solar-powered water desalination and off-grid water infrastructure, and S.FIVE GROUPE SPA, an Algerian water and wastewater treatment equipment manufacturer and EPC contractor, signed a strategic partnership agreement to bring solar-powered desalination systems to communities, industries, and institutions across Algeria.

The agreement was signed during the German–Algerian Economic Forum in Berlin, with S.FIVE represented by its CEO, Mr. Abdelghani Seffal. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Frank Wetzel, Parliamentary State Secretary at Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, underscoring the strategic significance of the partnership to both governments.

The signing marks a new chapter for Boreal Light in North Africa, laying the foundation for the company's broader expansion into Arabic-speaking Africa, starting with Algeria. The two companies' joint focus is to bring autonomous, solar-powered desalination solutions to rural and semi-urban communities, where reliable water infrastructure is becoming increasingly critical to sustainable economic development.

The two companies will work together on the sales, local assembly, installation, commissioning, and long-term operation and maintenance of Boreal Light's solar water desalination systems throughout Algerian territory, including the Algerian Sahara. The partnership pairs Boreal Light's German-engineered solar desalination technology and international project experience with S.FIVE's local market access, EPC execution capability, and after-sales service network.

"For years, we have been looking for a hub in Arabic Africa — not just a country to receive our products, but one to co-develop them with us, with real technology transfer and a genuine role for local talent," said Dr. Hamed Beheshti, CEO of Boreal Light GmbH. "Algeria, as the second-largest country in Africa, with serious water needs in its rural areas, is exactly that kind of country. Through S.FIVE's proposals and the capacity we've seen from the Algerian government, we found real common ground for this partnership. Over the next five years, we expect it to make a genuine impact — for local communities, and for us as manufacturers."

“S.FIVE GROUPE has spent years building the engineering and project execution capability that Algeria's water sector needs. Partnering with Boreal Light lets us extend that capability into solar desalination for communities across the Sahara and beyond — with a genuine focus on training our people and building lasting local expertise. This is the kind of partnership that creates real, long-term impact”, said Mr. Abdelghani Seffal, CEO, S.FIVE GROUPE SPA.

Addressing Water Stress Across Algeria

The partnership is designed to support off-grid and water-stressed communities, industries, farms, public institutions, and municipal clients throughout Algeria. Solar-powered desalination is particularly well suited to remote and arid regions, and the companies plan to explore pilot projects in locations including Tamanrasset, Djanet, Illizi, and In Salah.

Boreal Light's product range is offering a sustainable alternative to diesel-powered or centralized water infrastructure in areas that lack reliable grid access.

Building Local Capability

A central pillar of the partnership is a structured technology transfer and training program, through which Boreal Light will provide S.FIVE's engineers and technicians with hands-on training in installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of its systems. The program includes a certification path by product category and competence level, with Boreal Light engineers supervising S.FIVE personnel during early pilot projects to build local technical capability.

The companies also plan to develop a phased local assembly roadmap, growing S.FIVE's role in assembling approved system components in Algeria under Boreal Light's quality supervision.

Looking Ahead

Beyond project delivery, the two companies' shared ambition over the next five years is to establish a technology transfer program and a local assembly facility in Algeria — strengthening regional manufacturing capabilities and creating a long-term platform for sustainable water infrastructure across the country.

"We look forward to building something with lasting impact, together — and we thank Mr. Seffal and the entire S.FIVE team for their trust and shared vision," said Dr. Hamed Beheshti.
